— A note from Choir Director Bernard Wiseman —

The music presented during a church service may have a profound influence on the spiritual experience of worshipers. It is my goal to provide meaningful choral music for the service of worship.

Music selected covers a significant spectrum of church choral music repertoire. Meaningful music need not always be somber, but rather that it convey a message, whether that is introspective or jubilant.

Our choir is diverse in that they represent a cross section of the church population. Outside of the church and choir, our members function in a wide range of roles from architects to teachers. The commonality is their love of music and the mission presenting sacred music to the congregation of First Presbyterian Church.

Sanctuary Choir Rehearsals
Wednesdays | 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM
—in the Choir Room

Would you like to sing in a historic church with wonderful acoustics? Make new friends? Widen your musical repertoire? If your answer is "yes," come to First Presbyterian Church Sanctuary Choir weekly rehearsals.

If you are new to the choir, call Choir Director Bernie Wiseman (217-529-6870) for an introduction to the Choir Ministry. The choir sings during the Sunday worship service from September through May, and occasionally during the summer. The music will be stylistically varied from week to week, so if you don't like what we sing one week, come back the next: it will be different.

Choir practice is held on Wednesday evenings at 6:30 PM during the season. An option of Vespers at 5:30 PM and/or a carry-in supper at 6:00 PM precedes choir practice .Rehearsals end at 8:30 PM.

—— First Presbyterian Church is also raising funds for new choir robes. Why do we wear choir robes? Because we do not want to focus on the individual, but instead on the cross and the choir as humble worship leaders. ——
