Sí se puede! (Yes, it can be done!)

Beginning Spanish classes are now offered at First Presbyterian Church. This is an especially meaningful opportunity for those interested in participating in our Sancti Spiritus/Cuba Ministry Partnership.

I had expressed an interest in starting Spanish lessons for our kids back at First Presbyterian because the children at Sancti Spiritus were busy learning English. (See the photo below.) I thought we should make the same effort to learn Spanish . . . Traveling in a foreign country can be frustrating, at the very least. Being able to communicate - at least a little bit - in the native language is a show of respect for their culture.

Before we left Cuba last January, our friend Jacqueline - along with her daughters Dianet and Danays - presented me with some Spanish language texts they had used as children. I know I treasure those books that survived my childhood, and I can't imagine giving them away to anyone. That's why it was especially moving to receive the books, some yellowed and all well-used. The books were a gift - and also a challenge. Join us in meeting the challenge, every Wednesday night after potluck.
