Next Blessing of the Animals Service
Saturday, October 1, 2011 | 11:00 a.m.
But ask the animals what they think—let them teach you;
let the birds tell you what's going on.
Put your ear to the earth—learn the basics.
Listen—the fish in the ocean will tell you their stories.
Isn't it clear that they all know and agree
that God is sovereign, that he holds all things in his hand—
Every living soul, yes,
every breathing creature?
— Job 12:7-10
You and your pet, or pets, are invited to participate in a service celebrating all living things in God’s good creation. Fur, feathers, scales, and fins are welcome, but use your own wisdom about how this service will best fit your pet's well-being. You may choose to bring your shy, aggressive, or stressed-out pet in a photo rather than in person, or bring a picture of a wild bird or animal you particularly love. Rev. Clifford J. Hayes will lead the brief service.
All animals must be on a leash or in a carrier. Clean-up aids and water will be available.
All who attend are encouraged to bring a donation of a dog or cat food item, which will be contributed to the Humane Society of Sangamon County.
