Child and Youth Ministry

We believe
that our children and youth are the embodiment
of God's love for us, and we believe that
they are our future
and our hope!
We believe that children and youth
should be seen and
heard,
and so we invite them to participate in our worship
by serving as acolytes, bell ringers,
and liturgists —
as well as by singing in the children's choir.
We believe that children and youth have many different
ways of learning, and so we provide activity kits related to
the day's Scripture lessons for worship services, and we
seek new ways of teaching to make Bible stories and
histories of faith come to life, such as developing the
learning labs of the Workshop Rotation Sunday School.
We believe that
children and youth have many gifts and
ways to serve God through serving
others — and so we
offer opportunities such as First
Presbyterian Church Youth
Group, mission
at the local homeless shelter, or taking the extraordinary opportunity to share in a mission
trip to Cuba.
We believe
that children and youth should have a safe
and welcoming environment in which
to grow, and so we
provide professional and volunteer child
care for infants
and toddlers during worship, and we adhere
to a two-
person-present rule in our youth programs as outlined in
our official child protection
policies. (PDF download of
our Child Protection policies here)
We believe in designing sacred spaces especially for children — places to learn, pray, serve, and socialize. Our classrooms and education wing hallways are decorated with images that inspire and teach. A former meeting room has been transformed into the Discovery Den for Youth. This new space will serve as a multi-purpose youth room, which will be available to young people each Sunday for activities such as games, reading, and crafts — before and after Sunday school and church. It will also serve as a Sunday school room and youth group meeting room.
